Come and Join Us, It's Great Fun

Bell Ringing Workshop:Saturday 17th Jan 2015

This 1 to 1 session with an experienced tutor will enable you get the feel and sound of ringing the bell. It’s great fun so why not consider having a go.

Even though the sessions will be at St John’s Hagley, local church towers are available for you to continue the practice if you want to.

Places are limited so get yourself booked in via the contact below or just search “Hagley Ringers” on Google.

You will be invited to make a donatation to the Worcestershire and Districts Change Ringing Association Belfry Repairs Fund (Charity Number 505098) This donation is purely voluntary and not expected from persons not in paid employment.

You need no form of musical knowledge, listening is the key.

Ringing church bells is great fun, for everyone from 8 to 80 years of age, and the practice is keeping alive one of the most traditional pastimes since it was first introduced into English churches in the late 1600s. The ringing takes place in the church but is not part of the formal church. The bell ringers’ service to the church is to ring the bells and not necessarily to attend church services, unless they wish to.

Learning is fun for all ages. There is a great sense of achievement every time you master one of the many facets of ringing your bell with the other members in the ringing band, and the whole thing just sounds great, (when we get it right). This is where the 7:30pm Wednesday practice helps.

Tuition is given to take you through the stages of handling the bell safely, to ringing at services and weddings. Once your are able to handle the bell safely you are able to ring in any of the 6152 towers in the world, over 90% of which are in England. There are approximately 40,000 ringers in the country, so there is a wealth of assistance there to help in all stages of ringing.

You do not need any form of musical knowledge, listening is the key. If you can climb the 34 steps up the spiral stair case to the ringing chamber you can learn to ring.

Why not come and have a go on one of our Wednesday practice night, just turn up.  It you want to check that a practice is on, text or email me. The only commitment is for you to enjoy the ringing experience.
